About the work

A classic Kyo-yaki porcelain cup by Takuji Suzuki. The rabbit motif and accompanying design elements have a uniquely traditional Japanese character, while also reminiscent of some mid-century American Southwest designs that we find delightfully appealing.

Takuji was born the second son of Suzuki Kiyoshi in 1942, adding to a long line of Kyoto potters. He initially studied under his father and began his professional pottery career after graduating from Omani University in 1968. An ardent supporter of Kyoto’s ceramic tradition, Takuji worked for and on the board of the Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Society since the 1970s.
